The owner, who is well-versed in Tokyo’s tourist spots, assists with sightseeing plans at check-in. They support you in discovering hidden gems in Asakusa and its surrounding areas. From a foreigner's perspective, the rooms may feel small, but from the pleasant scent of tatami mats to the comfort of traditional futons, we hope everyone can immerse themselves in a simple Japanese experience that transcends time.

Additionally, to allow guests to feel more at home, reservations can be made for stays of 20 days or more. New guests can make reservations through Booking.com. We look forward to welcoming you.

10/10 : The owner is a really kind and helpful person. He gaves us good suggestion for visiting Tokyo and helped us for booking ghibli museum tickets.

Thanks to him, we felt like home at this ryokan!

10/10 : unglaublich netter Besitzer, der uns tolle Tipps für Tokyo gegeben und uns bei jeder Kleinigkeit sofort hilfreiche Lösungen geboten hat.

9/10 :The building is very traditional, with wooden floors that can make noise if you don't know the ninja walk, but it really brings a peaceful atmosphere. The host is incredibly caring and would do anything to make your stay enjoyable. We were two and had a third friend coming but she had no accomodation yet, and he

managed to set a third futon in the bedroom for a very reasonnable price. Thanks again for his hospitality. PS : the futons are the most confortable thing we slept in during our whole trip (2 months trip)

10/10 : We had a wonderful experience on our first time visit to Japan. The hospitality and personal service provided by the owners were amazing! They gave us great advice and tourist places to visit each day as we toured different districts within Tokyo. The place is comfortable, practical and within our budget. They offer free laundry, towels and snacks. They even provide umbrellas if it rains! The place is within walking distance to convenience stores and subway stations. We definitely would come back to stay here when we visit Japan again. Thank you to Tatsuo and Yoshiko for your kindness and generosity!!! And also for the memorable gift, which will always remind us of our special trip to Tokyo. 💞😃

7/10 : The location isn't ideal. Walking to the train station can take up to 15 minutes, as you'll also need to use stairs to cross the train tracks. Even at a young age, it was very tiring for me. Also expect a travel time of around an hour to reach major city centers like Shinjuku and Shibuya. The room was quite cold due to poor insulation. The shared bathroom area and hallways were also very cold. You might want to reconsider staying here during the winter months.

The staff are very helpful and welcoming towards foreigners. The washing and drying machines were great and inexpensive to use. I never ran out of clothes. Located in a quiet neighborhood. It's the perfect place to experience authentic Japanese life, including the long commute times and the infamous rush-hour trains.

8/10 :It was cold but it was still winter. At least there was a heater in our room. Clean, cozy room, it was small but comfortable. The shared shower was clean and my room stayed warm even in the coldest days. Staff emptied my trash daily when I left, which was very convenient. The owner spoke English, and was proactive with tons of recommendations around Tokyo (actually good ones), and was friendly and lively. I felt his 'omotenashi'.

Our History

Welcome to Nakadaya. This is an inn slightly away from the longstanding hustle and bustle of Asakusa. The old wooden ryokan preserves the simple charm of old Tokyo, and many people have visited and spent time here as if it were their second home. Its history is long; there was an inn here even when this area was nothing but fields. My great-grandfather Toyokichi would transport guests from Ueno to this inn about 6km round trip, pushing them in a rickshaw. My grandmother, who experienced the Great Kanto Earthquake, started over from scratch in this town on this site, which had become a burnt-out wasteland during World War II. We have inherited that DNA and now genuinely enjoy meeting guests from overseas, eagerly awaiting tourists from around the world. Today, although many inns and apartment buildings line the streets, we have continued running this inn here for generations.
